Show Excel Formulas with FORMULATEXT

An example animation using FORMULATEXT

The FORMULATEXT function lets you display the text of a formula in a different cell. This function accepts a cell reference:

=FORMULATEXT([cell_reference])

This reference should target a single cell; referencing a range will only return the result of the first cell in the range. Also, attempting to reference a cell without a formula will result in an #N/A error.

Displaying formulas like this is useful when you want to show how a few existing values are calculated (like during a demo or training situation).

If you want to show all formulas on the worksheet, it's better to use the Show Formulas tool.

Alternatively, you can print a formula in a cell using the ' character.
