Simplify Formulas with Named Cells

July 09, 2019
To name a cell, click the label on the left of the formula bar and enter a custom name.

Do you have certain cells that you find yourself referencing all the time? Naming them will make your formulas easier to read and understand.

To name a cell, select the cell, click the name field to the left of the formula bar, and enter the name. Cells can also be named in the menu that appears when right-clicking on a cell, or in the Ribbon > Formula Tab > Define Name.

Cell names must be unique and begin with a letter or underscore.

Once your cell is named, the name can be used in place of the cell reference in formulas.
